Feel the spirit of Bulgarian history by visiting the monument to the Apostle and the museum dedicated to the life and work of Vasil Levski. Here you will find a rich exhibition of personal belongings, documents and photographs.
The complex consists of five houses – cultural monuments. Each of them has its own unique message, energy, rich history and Renaissance atmosphere.
It is housed in the building of the former Fifth Grade Boys’ School, built in 1871. It is located next to Vasil Levski Square, opposite the St. Nicholas Church, in the “Old Karlovo” Historical Zone, a group monument of architecture and urbanism from the period of the National Revival, in the historical central part of the city.
A monument of Bulgarian Renaissance architecture. It was erected in 1847, and among the icon painters were Stanislav Dospevski and Ivan Zografski. The church bell tower was built in 1890. During the solemn ringing of the bells, the name of the church “Sve-ti-Ni-ko-lai” is clearly heard. Here in 1858, the Day of Bulgarian Writing was celebrated for the first time. In the courtyard of the church is the grave of Gina Kuncheva – the mother of Vasil Levski.
Karlzade Ali Bey built the oldest surviving building in Karlovo – the Bullet Mosque (1485), so called (“Lead Mosque”) because of its lead roof.
There is no other place in Bulgaria with a waterfall so close to the city center. Its name translates as “Flying Water.” It falls from a height of about 10 meters and is fed by the waters of the Stara Reka River as it enters the city.
